New Zealand's exporters should escape the worst of the recession, despite dire predictions in some of its key export markets.

Both the US and Britain are predicting more job losses for their economies, as well as particularly hard times for retailers.
Export New Zealand chairman Ken Stevens says local exporters should be relatively well placed, based on their long term contracts and supply chain which should delay the onset of economic downturn.

He says exporters of luxury goods will likely suffer, but primary industry exporters will continue to do well.
